Biography:
Jack Torrance, portrayed by Jack Nicholson, is the central character in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror film The Shining. He first appears in this film, based on Stephen King's novel.
Torrance is a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic who accepts a position as the winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He hopes the solitude will provide him with the time and space to finish his play.
However, as the winter progresses and the hotel becomes cut off by snow, Jack's mental state deteriorates. He becomes increasingly irritable, withdrawn, and eventually, violently psychotic, influenced by the malevolent supernatural forces within the Overlook Hotel.
His descent into madness culminates in a terrifying pursuit of his wife, Wendy, and son, Danny, through the snow-covered grounds of the hotel.
